Editorial clarification — September 13, 2026: This article preserves the record as it stood after the Italian Grand Prix on September 6. All statistics below are through Round 13.

At the 2026 Italian Grand Prix, Kimi Antonelli became only the fifth Italian driver to win at least two Formula 1 World Championship Grands Prix in one season—and the first to reach seven.

Antonelli arrived at Monza level with Alberto Ascari’s six-win 1952 benchmark. Victory at the Italian Grand Prix gave Antonelli seven wins through the first 13 rounds of 2026 and moved him ahead of Ascari’s record for the most wins by an Italian driver in a single F1 season.

Ascari established the previous benchmark with Ferrari in 1952, winning in Belgium, France, Great Britain, Germany, the Netherlands and Italy. Antonelli’s first seven Mercedes victories of 2026 came in China, Japan, Miami, Canada, Monaco, Belgium and Italy, with his Monza win moving him past Ascari’s six-win total.

Each driver appears once, based on his best season through the September 6 statistical cutoff:

Kimi Antonelli — 7 wins — 2026 — Mercedes

Alberto Ascari — 6 wins — 1952 — Ferrari

Nino Farina — 3 wins — 1950 — Alfa Romeo

Michele Alboreto — 2 wins — 1985 — Ferrari

Riccardo Patrese — 2 wins — 1991 — Williams

Farina recorded his three-win season while becoming Formula 1’s inaugural World Champion. Alboreto won in Canada and Germany during his 1985 title challenge, while Patrese claimed victories in Mexico and Portugal in 1991.

Italy’s other 11 Grand Prix winners never won more than once during the same season.

Antonelli’s victory at Monza marked the moment he moved ahead of Ascari and became the outright Italian record holder for the most Formula 1 victories in one season.

Grand Prix victories only. Sprint wins are excluded. Statistical cutoff: 2026 Italian Grand Prix, Round 13.
