Max Verstappen delivered a flawless performance to win the final race of the 2025 season at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, starting from pole position and controlling the pace to secure his eighth victory of the year. Despite his dominant drive at the Yas Marina Circuit, it was not enough to secure a fifth consecutive world title. The race itself saw an early shake-up when Oscar Piastri overtook his teammate Lando Norris on the first lap, leading for a period on an alternate tire strategy before Verstappen eventually passed him for the lead. Norris, who only needed a podium finish to clinch the championship, managed pressure from Ferrari's Charles Leclerc and navigated traffic after his pit stop to finish third, exactly where he needed to be.

Lando Norris — 2025 World Drivers' Champion

Lando Norris and the McLaren team have ample reason for celebration after a historic 2025 Formula 1 season, in which they secured both the Drivers' and Constructors' Championships. Norris clinched his maiden world title at the season-ending Abu Dhabi Grand Prix with a crucial third-place finish, concluding an intense battle that went down to the final race, beating Verstappen by just two points in the overall standings. This triumph ended Max Verstappen's four-year reign as champion and made Norris the first McLaren driver to win the drivers' championship since Lewis Hamilton in 2008. The team's success was comprehensive, as McLaren had already secured their record-equaling 10th Constructors' Championship title back in October at the Singapore Grand Prix, with six races still remaining in the season, marking their first Drivers' and Constructors' double since 1998.
