Simply Lovely: Verstappen Completes Singapore Sweep and Claims the Missing Win

Max Verstappen turns his 250th Grand Prix into career victory No. 73, conquering Singapore and completing a four-part weekend sweep.

Max Verstappen takes the chequered flag at the 2026 Singapore Grand Prix beneath the Singapore sign as fireworks light the sky.

Yesterday, it was three P1s and one missing win. Today, the missing win belongs to Max Verstappen.

The Red Bull driver claimed his first Singapore Grand Prix victory on his tenth start at Marina Bay, finishing 7.335 seconds ahead of Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc, with Mercedes’ Kimi Antonelli completing the podium.

It completed a clean sweep of the weekend’s four competitive sessions: P1 in Sprint Qualifying, P1 in the Sprint, P1 in Grand Prix qualifying and P1 in the Grand Prix.

Verstappen’s Sunday began with a challenge from Leclerc, whose stronger getaway threatened the pole-sitter’s advantage. Verstappen protected the inside into Turn 1 and retained the lead, then built a gap as Ferrari’s two cars followed.

Leclerc reduced the deficit in the closing stages, but Verstappen had enough in hand to secure the victory. Behind them, Antonelli passed Lewis Hamilton to claim third, while Hamilton eventually finished sixth.

Verstappen’s long-awaited Singapore win was finally secured.

Singapore joins the list

Marina Bay becomes the 27th different circuit where Verstappen has won a Grand Prix.

He had already stood on Singapore’s podium four times, finishing second in 2018, 2024 and 2025, and third in 2019. Those results showed he could compete here, but none delivered the victory that kept escaping him.

Even during his dominant 2023 season, Singapore resisted. It was the race that ended his ten-win streak, making Marina Bay an unusually stubborn omission from his winning record.

This weekend brought two breakthroughs. Saturday delivered his first Singapore Grand Prix pole and the 50th pole of his career. Sunday supplied the trophy in his 250th Grand Prix start.

Career victory No. 73 also moved him ahead of Michael Schumacher’s 72 wins for Ferrari in the record for victories with a single constructor. Every Verstappen Grand Prix win has come with Red Bull.

Recent form tells the story

Singapore gave Verstappen consecutive Grand Prix victories after his win at Sepang in the Bahrain Grand Prix in Malaysia.

Eight Sprint points and 25 Grand Prix points produced a maximum weekend haul of 33. Combined with second place in Azerbaijan and victory at Sepang, that brings his total across the last three race weekends to 76 points.

That exceeds the 73 he collected across the opening eight weekends, including Sprint points in both totals. His Grand Prix podium streak now stretches to five races.

Madrid’s new Madring, introduced this season, is now the only current-calendar circuit where Verstappen has not won a Grand Prix. He finished second at its inaugural race.

That challenge remains. Singapore’s does not.
