The Family Story Behind Lindblad’s Brazil Helmet

The patterns on Arvid Lindblad’s new helmet began with celebrations at home. This weekend, he’s taking them to Interlagos.

Arvid Lindblad has made rangoli designs for Diwali before. This year, those patterns will travel with him at Formula 1 speed.

The Racing Bulls driver has unveiled a special helmet for the São Paulo Grand Prix, which falls on November 8, the same day as Diwali. Its details connect his Indian heritage with traditions shared with his maternal grandparents, Nani and Nana.

A tribute to Nani and Nana

A Phulkari-inspired pattern honors his grandmother’s Punjabi roots. Other elements recall lighting diyas with his grandfather, alongside lotus and firework motifs.

Lindblad helped shape the design himself.

“Celebrating Diwali with my family, especially my Nani and Nana, has always been a very important part of my upbringing,” he said.

The celebration reaches the garage

Racing Bulls will carry the tribute onto his car with a Diwali greeting on the halo. Related patterns will decorate his garage floor and panels.

For anyone watching on Sunday, the helmet offers a small introduction to the family traditions Lindblad grew up with, carried into the cockpit.
