Two extensions in two days keep Carlos Sainz and Alex Albon together at Williams for 2027.

Carlos Sainz’s Williams car beneath his five-team Formula 1 career timeline, with Sainz and Alex Albon confirmed as Williams’ 2027 line-up.

Williams settled its 2027 driver line-up in two days. Alex Albon’s extension was announced first, followed by a new multi-year agreement keeping Carlos Sainz at the team beyond 2026.

The exact length of Sainz’s contract was not disclosed, but Williams has confirmed that the two drivers will remain teammates in 2027.

FIVE TEAMS, ONE DECISION

Sainz began his Formula 1 career with Toro Rosso in 2015 before moving to Renault during the 2017 season. McLaren followed in 2019, Ferrari in 2021 and Williams in 2025.

Williams is therefore the fifth constructor he has represented across his Formula 1 career:

After repeatedly adapting to new teams, cars and working environments, Sainz has chosen to continue building with Williams.

ONLY PROST DID IT FIRST

Sainz’s two podiums during his first Williams season placed him in rare company. He became only the second driver after Alain Prost to score Formula 1 podiums for McLaren, Ferrari and Williams.

Those results also delivered Williams’ first Grand Prix podiums since 2021.

CONTINUITY THROUGH THE REBUILD

Williams has endured a difficult 2026 season, but its driver pairing will not be part of another reset.

Albon has raced for the team since 2022, while Sainz joined three years later. Keeping both drivers gives Williams continuity, established technical feedback and a confirmed line-up heading into 2027.
