RUSSELL TAKES POLE FOR ZANDVOORT’S FIRST—AND FINAL—SPRINT
George Russell beat Lando Norris by 0.041 seconds to secure pole for the first—and final—Formula 1 Sprint at Zandvoort.
George Russell delivered a 1:11.567 in SQ3 to put Mercedes at the front of the grid for Saturday’s Sprint. Lando Norris finished just 0.041 seconds behind.
FOUR DRIVERS INSIDE ONE TENTH
Charles Leclerc qualified third, 0.055 seconds behind Russell, while Oscar Piastri completed the second row with a deficit of 0.099 seconds.
The four fastest drivers therefore represented three different constructors—Mercedes, McLaren and Ferrari—and were covered by less than one tenth of a second.
ANTONELLI FIFTH, VERSTAPPEN SIXTH
Kimi Antonelli secured fifth in the second Mercedes, 0.227 seconds behind Russell. Home favorite Max Verstappen qualified sixth for Red Bull, followed by Lewis Hamilton in seventh.
ZANDVOORT’S ONLY SPRINT
This is Zandvoort’s first Sprint weekend. With the Dutch Grand Prix scheduled to leave the calendar after 2026, it will also be the circuit’s only Sprint during its current Formula 1 run.
The result sets the grid for Saturday’s 24-lap Sprint. Qualifying for Sunday’s Grand Prix will be held separately later in the day.
