Red Bull Commits to Mekies Through 2031 After Return to Winning Form
Laurent Mekies will remain Red Bull’s CEO and team principal through 2031, extending the team’s leadership continuity after consecutive victories in Malaysia and Singapore.
Red Bull has committed to Laurent Mekies through the end of 2031, giving the man who took charge in July 2025 a long-term mandate to lead its next chapter.
Shareholder Mark Mateschitz announced the extension during a team debrief in Milton Keynes on October 14. The setting followed two successful weekends for Red Bull, with Max Verstappen winning at Sepang and then taking both the Sprint and Grand Prix in Singapore.
The agreement also follows contract renewals for Verstappen and Isack Hadjar. Together, those decisions give Red Bull continuity in its driver lineup and senior leadership as it works to turn its recent recovery into sustained competitiveness.
Backing the leadership through a transition
Mekies moved across from Racing Bulls to replace Christian Horner last year. His appointment ended Horner’s 20-year tenure and put a different leader in charge of one of Formula 1’s most successful teams.
The Frenchman brought experience from Minardi, Toro Rosso, the FIA and Ferrari, alongside his time running Red Bull’s sister team.
In their statement announcing the extension, shareholders Chalerm Yoovidhya and Mateschitz credited Mekies with guiding Red Bull through an important transition.
“This extension reflects our confidence in his leadership and our shared belief in the long-term vision of the Team,” they said.
That is the central message of the agreement: Red Bull’s owners want Mekies to continue the work already underway.
Recent wins give Red Bull something to build on
The extension comes during Red Bull’s first season competing with its own power unit. Its early difficulties under the new regulations made the recent victories a significant change in form.
There is still ground to recover. Reuters reported that Red Bull remained fourth in the constructors’ standings after Singapore, seven points behind McLaren in third.
That puts the celebrations in perspective. Red Bull has returned to winning races, while its season-long position still reflects the work needed to catch its rivals.
Mekies’ response emphasized the wider organization, including the groups led by Pierre Waché and Ben Hodgkinson. The commitment through 2031 gives that operation a clear leadership direction beyond the immediate run of results.
For now, Red Bull has backed the person leading its recovery. The next task is to make winning a regular expectation again.
